The overall architectural styles of the homes in Buckhead North have a fascinating history. It’s largely the Acadian style that originated from French Country. This style home developed in America from the early migration of French Colonial settlers who first moved to Canada and Maine in the 1600s. Over the years, they drifted down to Louisiana and became the Cajuns we all know and love. They developed a style of home that has, over the years, mingled with other influences to create the Southern version of Acadian architecture. It became popular in coastal areas prone to hurricanes because the roof lines, originally designed to reduce snow accumulation, also helped to quickly shed rain and water accumulation. The style signature has a high, steep, “hipped” roof line, brick facades, usually front porches, columns, dormers and/or gables. It retains a strong French Country influence along with the addition of antebellum influences of Georgian, Neo classical, and Greek Revival. The Southern Acadian style was introduced in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Modern houses, that incorporate this style are known as Nouveau-Acadian or “Acabellum.”
While these styles dominate most of the Buckhead North homes, some may have subtle Southern Georgian or Provincial influences like rounded arches and elegant trim in decorative details. The developer avoided duplication in the home plans giving families the choice and individual freedom to create lifestyles that spoke of their personal influences and style. We don’t have cookie cutter homes in Buckhead North. Our Architectural Review Board works hard to uphold these standards and preserve our property values. You can contact them here.
